Nvision (Xi’an) Technology Co., Ltd., an optoelectronic heterogeneous integration company (“Nvision Technology”), has announced the completion of a tens of millions of RMB angel funding round, exclusively invested by CAS Star. The funds will be primarily used to accelerate the industrialization of "wafer-level heterogeneous integration technology," addressing bottlenecks in traditional optical modules—such as low integration, large size, high power consumption, and high cost—in the fields of artificial intelligence and data centers.
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and the exponential growth of data volume, traditional copper cables and optical modules can no longer meet the increasing demand for interconnect bandwidth. Optical I/O (OIO) is emerging as a new paradigm for interconnect transmission and is currently in a phase of rapid development.
Nvision Technology possesses unique and advanced wafer-level optoelectronic heterogeneous integration technology, focusing on the development of optical I/O (OIO) products and infrared detectors. This technology enables the integration of III-V materials into the silicon industry chain, combining the cost and device area density advantages of silicon (following the "Moore's Law") with the high bandwidth characteristics of photonics. The goal is to achieve exceptional performance metrics in optical interconnects, with a bandwidth density of up to 10,000 (Gbps/mm²)/(pJ/b), an energy efficiency of approximately 1 pJ/b @ 3.2T, and latency below 5ns + time of flight (TOF). These represent significant advantages over competing technologies, providing superior solutions for performance-demanding applications such as data centers, high-performance computing, 5G communications, and artificial intelligence.
Nie Hui, founder of Nvision Technology, brings 30 years of experience in optoelectronic devices. He has held technical and management roles at internationally renowned companies including Lucent Bell Labs and Intel, where he led multiple projects and founding teams. The core team members mainly come from industry-leading companies such as Intel and top lidar companies. with extensive practical experience in the R&D and mass production of optoelectronic devices. They have successfully achieved breakthroughs in key technologies from the ground up—including 100G silicon photonics chips, high-power vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers (VCSELs), high-sensitivity single-photon avalanche diodes (SPADs), and silicon photonics lidar chips—and have validated these through large-scale mass production and delivery.
Nvision Technology’s goal in optoelectronic integration is to incorporate compound photonic materials into the development trend of "Moore’s Law." This includes optoelectronic co-design and co-manufacturing, preparing optical chips (such as transceivers and detectors) via wafer-level heterogeneous integration with CMOS production lines, and achieving interconnection with electronic chips at the wafer level. This approach has the potential to completely disrupt the current industrial ecosystem of optical chips (based on compound materials).
As the investor in this round, CAS Star stated: “Optoelectronic integration is an important trend in the information field. With the broad demand unleashed by artificial intelligence in sensing, communications, and computing, optoelectronic heterogeneous integration represents a viable technological pathway and a key focus for CAS Star. We are confident in Nvision Technology's team due to their industrial experience in III-V optical chips and silicon photonics, as well as their successful practice in optoelectronic integration—all of which enhance the feasibility of innovation in optical I/O and infrared sensing. Furthermore, Nvision Technology can form tight upstream-downstream cooperations with CAS Star’s ecosystem in the optoelectronics semiconductor industry and possesses significant potential for expanded applications. Therefore, we firmly support this investment and are providing strong backing in areas such as processing platforms. We look forward to Nvision Technology delivering outstanding optoelectronic heterogeneous integration solutions to the industry.”
